How it Works?

Convenience and simplicity give the best results.

Our smart solution for remote patient monitoring

BloodTrackR allows an entirely new approach to patient monitoring that means doctors and patients can enjoy more convenient and responsive healthcare.

Remote Healthcare Solution

Multiple chronic musculoskeletal conditions are characterised by sporadic ‘flares’ or episodes where symptoms worse. In rheumatoid arthritis for example, flare is characterised by painful, stiff or swollen joints. In ankylosing spondylitis or osteoarthritis, flare also manifests as sudden exacerbation of pain and decreased physical function.

It is important that doctors identify flares accurately and have an opportunity to reduce pain, joint damage, disability and cardiovascular risk. Clinically, flares and persisting disease activity are indications to change or escalate treatment; flare risk is also increased during treatment tapering.

BloodTrackR offers a robust and user friendly platform which can capture empirical evidence of a flare when they happen at home. With disruption of normal clinical care by COVID-19, there is now a greater need for remote monitoring of shielding patients and agility in healthcare services.

Some of BloodTrackR’s benefits:

  • For Patients: Greater convenience, reduced hospital visits and empowers people living with long term conditions to be actively involved in managing their health.

  • For Clinicians: Longitudinal data is available to adjust treatments and can be used to improve adherence to medicines.

  • For Healthcare providers: Can reduce service costs and offers a phlebotomy free solution to blood collection for lab tests. Also frees up staff and resources and offers COVID-19 service resilience.

  • For Clinical Research Organisations: Can reduce clinical trial costs by limiting dropout, improve protocol compliance and boost recruitment potential.

Simple Steps

The user activates the BloodTrackR device with the push of a button. This automatically pairs the device with available Wi-Fi via a dedicated mobile phone app. A single use lancet is used to safely withdraw a couple of droplets of blood from the users finger.

The user places their finger onto the blood collection port and blood is drawn into the device where it is filtered into purified plasma, detected within the device and sample date and time logged and reported by Wi-Fi to a secure server linked to healthcare provider or private lab IT systems.

The device signals to the user when adequate sample has been collected and recorded. The filtered plasma sample is stabilised within the device and temperature logged during transit. The device can then be posted back to the lab for analysis and test data fed back to the user app and clinical records.

Innovative Design

The BloodTrackR device overcomes several technical issues or problems with other blood sampling methods or devices:

This is a fundamental shift in healthcare service offering, placing the user in control of monitoring their condition, at their convenience. Moreover, its user operated with minimal training- it has a user friendly all in one design, which considers needs of users with musculoskeletal issues.

A sample filter separates blood cells from the sera so that pure dried sera is logged and stored in the device. This important as it avoids the haematocrit issues that other dried blood spot devices suffer from. Haematocrit is an issue when blood cell numbers spread unevenly within a sample collection material, which in turn can influence sample recovery and validity of test results.

Stabiliser in the sample collection material increases the recovery of labile target analytes. It therefore improves test accuracy over devices which don’t have this.

The continuous temperature monitoring function gives absolute confidence in sample integrity, particularly for transport in countries with seasonally higher ambient temperature and tests for heat labile protein biomarkers such as alanine transaminase (ALT), creatine kinase (CK) and aspartate transaminase (AST), commonly used as liver function tests in rheumatology.

The sample digital date and time stamp provides clear evidence of sample timepoint to a healthcare provider or clinical trial investigator. This is particularly important in accurately tracking the peak and duration of a flare up. The Wi-Fi capability of the device adds immediacy to the sample data reporting. The device is also designed in a reusable format with data encryption to ensure security.

BloodTrackR Values

We aim to provide user friendly products which empower and improve the lives of people living with long term health conditions. We strive to improve connections between clinical services and the home and develop products with real benefits to clinicians, health care providers and decentralized clinical trials.

The ultimate vision for the BloodTrackR platform, is to incorporate next generation immunoassays to allow markers of inflammation such as C-reactive protein to be determined in real time and reported immediately via internet-of-things technology to clinical records.
